Oscar and Friday

Jennifer and her entire family fell in love with the friendly, juvenile, gray tabby kitty that showed up at their rural home near Denham Springs, Louisiana two weeks ago, but they could not bring it into their home because of serious allergies in the family. They did their best to keep the kitty safe and comfortable outside, including giving it an enclosed, heated shelter, but they knew this was only a short-term solution while they worked to find a good, permanent home. It wasn't until after the children named it Oscar that they learned that this kitty is a girl, but the name stuck anyway. Now, Oscar is 50 feet high at the top of a tree at the edge of a wooded area bordering the front yard, and she spent one night there before they found me to rescue her. Sweet, friendly kitties like Oscar are such a pleasure to rescue. She came straight to me, and I lifted her out of her perch and placed her on my lap where we had a sweet visit for a minute or two. I had already spread the bottom of the cat bag over my lap, so all I had left to do was pull the sides of the bag up around her and take her down. I am not sure if it was a failure of my camera or the operator, but I ended with no video or pictures of the rescue to show just how sweet and cute this kitty was. The only picture I have is this one which Jennifer sent to me afterward showing a tired kitty sleeping comfortably in her heated bed after spending one long, miserable, cold night in a tree.

Speaking of sweet kitties, Friday, a sweet, fourteen-month-old black kitty in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, was also in need of a rescue after spending two nights 25 feet high in a tree. I rescued this sweet girl nine months ago in the same spot of the same tree, and the second time was just as easy as the first. She came to me and stepped on my lap for an easy ride back down to the ground. Actually, that is an oversimplification, since I could not get her to place all four paws on my lap until I enticed her with some of her favorite treats. Still, it was easy and fun, and she is now safe and comfortable at home again.
