Chrome and Unknown Gray Tabby
Chrome was such a cute kitten. This sweet seven-month-old girl escaped from her house and was stuck overnight in a very large Sweetgum tree in her backyard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. When I climbed up into the tree with her, she was fully relaxed and curious about me. She came to me to investigate and we visited there for a few minutes. I spread the bottom of the cat bag over my lap and began to encourage her to step there. She would place her front legs on my lap, but I could not get her to place all four legs there. I eventually gave up and simply put my hands under her chest and belly and lifted her off the limb and placed her on my lap, and she was perfectly comfortable with that. After a few more gentle pets, I pulled the sides of the bag up around her, secured her inside, and then took her back down to the ground. We released her back inside the house, and all is well in the household again. She was a simple joy to rescue.
Like Chrome, the unknown gray tabby kitten that Beth found in a tree down the street from her house was just as sweet and a joy to rescue. We know for sure that he spent two nights in the tree, but it's possible he may have been there longer before Beth discovered him. He didn't belong to anyone on this short, dead-end street in Prairieville, Louisiana, but Beth was happy to take care of him and adopt him as her own if necessary. The kitten was out near the end of the limb, but when he saw me climbing up the trunk to his limb, he came straight toward me without any fear or concerns. After a few pets, he stepped on my lap before I had a chance to prepare the cat bag, so I decided to take him down on my lap. It was a short, obstacle-free descent, and he was very relaxed, so down we went. Once on the ground, I handed him over to Beth, and she carried him home to give him some tender loving care.
